Det vackra i demens (The beauty in dementia)
The purpose of this work is to show how something beautiful can grow out of something that appears to be negative. The crack represents the human brain's constant deterioration as a result of dementia. From this crack, something beautiful grows. The flower species represent rebirth, youth, new life, freedom from stress, innocence, and how tragedy can be transformed into something beautiful.
The children's drawings in the work represent the return to the past, which often occurs in people with dementia. Dementia is frequently portrayed as tragic, but for the individual affected, it can mean liberation from anxiety and an unconscious return to childhood. The children's drawings can be interpreted as the memories, represented by the flowers, not disappearing, but simply changing form.
The placement of the artwork in a dementia care home strengthens the message, as it becomes easier to understand what the work symbolizes. The work evokes a sense of hope and joy through its color palette. Pink and white are often associated with childhood and innocence, while purple is frequently linked to wisdom and spirituality. These colors therefore contribute to the overall theme. Flowers are commonly used as a symbol of the life cycle.
T hey bloom, wither, and are reborn.
